Corin Englebert

Age: 46

Sex: male

Date: 1 Sep 2018

Place: High Street, Taunton, Somerset

Corin Englebert died seven years after being assaulted in the street.

A man was convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but no manslaughter charges were brought. The man served 5 years of a 10 year sentence.

Corin Englebert had been assaulted in Fore Street, Taunton in January 2011 and had then gone into High Street where the assault continued.

He had been seen having a row with his girlfriend in the street and a passer-by intervened and punched him to the floor and then kicked him. He then got up and walked off but the man followed him and assaulted him again, kicking him several times in the head and causing serious brain injury.

It was claimed that the assault was entirely unprovoked, but the man claimed that he thought that Corin Englebert had been assaulting his girlfriend.

He had suffered from head injuries which later brought about sepsis due to bronchial pneumonia from which he died.

Following the assault Corin Englebert spent six months in hospital after which he was moved to the Pendine Park nursing home in Wexham where he died in September 2018.

At the time of his death he had been being fed through a stomach tube and before his death had lost a considerable amount of weight.

Corin Englebert had been living in Harriet Foster House, in Mary Street at the time he was assaulted.
